Join All-Con for 3 Full Days of Convention Fun

Moving Day Is Here!
March 11, 2009

We're loading up the truck and heading for the hotel! We've got a burlesque dressing room to build, art show panels to put up, a vendor/dealer's room to prepare, stages to put up, a hospitality suite to stock, and a laser tag center to configure. THE FINAL SCHEDULE HAS BEEN POSTED!! ...at least as final as it's going to be coming from the printer. Please check the volunteers table in the Oak Hall for any last-minute updates. This is your All-Con staff wishing you safe travels to the convention this weekend -- and signing off!

Weather Forecast - PERFECT!
March 10, 2009

A great weekend for golf? Nope! Prime conditions for yardwork or planting? Nope! Want to sit and home and wait to see if the power goes off? No way! THIS IS ALL-CON WEATHER! We're right at the tail end of a weather system that dries up during the convention. The weather which is just wet enough to be depressing is exactly what brings people to events like All-Con. Come inside; be with friends! It's not even too bad to travel in. (It sure beats the heat!!) Here's what weather.yahoo.com has to say:

Friday: Mainly cloudy and rainy.
Saturday: Chance of showers.
Sunday: Mix of sun and clouds.

We couldn't have planned for a better weekend! We'll see you here!

Michael Champion Confirms Appearance
March 5, 2009

Michael Champion wrote in today to confirm that he is definitely going to be able to attend his table in person at All-Con! Champion has agreed to do commission work at the convention. Because of time involved with each commissioned piece we recommend getting your requests in early so that they can be completed on-site. Do not miss your opportunity 'because you were distracted by the roller derby girls'. This is the first year All-Con has been fortunate enough to have Mr. Champion in attendance.

Front Row Seat To The Maid Competition!
March 5, 2009

The Maid contest, Saturday March 14th at All-Con, is looking for three judges for the contest. The work is easy and fun. You DO NOT need to be in a costume (but if you are, all the better!). Concerned because you've never been an event judge? No problem! There will be a 15 minute debrief to explain the rules. Click on the banner above for a contest overview and then send an email to Maids@escaperealityclothing.biz if you want to judge the contest. Do it for Emma, Tokyo Mew Mew, Hand Maid May! ...or if you have no idea who they are, do it for something really, really special that nobody else is getting to do at ALL-CON!

All-Con Laser Tag
March 3, 2009

It has been brought to our attention that very little has been said about All-Con laser tag. Sorry about that. All-Con's equipment is custom made by a company called Steradian Technologies and is rated for outdoors play up to a quarter mile in direct sunlight; a condition which thwarts most laser tag systems. We've got six Eclipse 310 pistols and two Scorpion II grenades. The scoring system was outside of our budget, so maybe another time...

Players get 99 hit points per round, and we have pre-configured three weapons choices - Stinger (rapid fire - half damage), Eclipse (standard fire - full damage), and Blaster (1 shot per clip - 500% damage). Our first year barriers are cardboard. We plan to improve the arena equipment and weapontry as events go by. All-Con Laser Tag is a free event.

Panel Descriptions Added
March 3, 2009

The program is gone! We've sent the souvenir program off to press. While compiling it we discovered that the Panel Descriptions page was a little out-of-date and the schedule had a few blemishes on it as well. Both have been updated, so take a peek! All-Con Weekend has turned out quite spectacular this year and we can't wait to see you there! Tickets are available online through Wednesday March 11. After that you will have to stand in line to buy them at the door. (Trust us - it's much faster to buy them online.)

MailBoxHeroes.com Wants You
February 28, 2009

Comics delivered directly to your door! MailboxHeroes, simply put, is a comic book mail order service. With a big selection, great service, your online shopping experience with MailBoxHeroes will be exactly what you were hoping for... and more! Just make your selection and they will rush them out to you! Pre-Orders, special orders, no problem. They have a great stock, plenty of variety, and have a history of reliable customer service.

Amime Brought To You By FUNimation!
February 27, 2009

FUNimation has donated several prizes for the Anime themed panels presented by Mu Epsilon Kappa (MEK) as well as some screener videos to be played in the Addison theater over the weekend. There's something for everybody at All-Con! Our great and many thanks go out to FUNimation for their untiring support of the convention, and to MEK for handling the Anime track!

Fans know James Hampton from his role as Bugler Hannibal Dobbs in "F-Troop", as "Caretaker" in the Burt Reynolds version of "The Longest Yard" (for which Mr. Hampton was nominated for a Golden Globe Award), as Michael J. Bill Cable / Creature Cantina Flying In To All-Con
February 21, 2009

Bill Cable, the artist and creative mind behind the sharp-witted website creaturecantina.com has taken up residence in Artist Alley and is ready to sketch con art commissions for you! Several of Bill's "Cable Originals" have ended up in the hands of Star Wars Celebrities since 2005 and last year pages of original art from Bill's web comic "The Cantina" were sold through All-Con's Art Gallery. Bill has been kind enough to design the logo for the FREE "Ask Chewbacca" event happening March 14th.

Don't miss your opportunity to meet this madman from Pennsylvania at his only scheduled Texas appearance for 2009!

Geeks On Film
February 20, 2009

Gamer's Delight - DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS
February 13, 2009

Gamers love conventions. Conventions love gamers! In past years we've had starships wage intergalactic wars and Colonial miniatures do battle. For 2009 the game of choice is one that every self respecting gamer who has ever thrown a d8 has heard of: Dungeons and Dragons(tm)! Chris Dunham is staffing the tabletop gamers area, ready to take experienced characters directly into the heat of action while also demonstrating (to the curious) the basics of game play.

D&D(tm) will be available for group play all weekend long! Bring your lucky dice and head for adventure!

Maid Contest - NEW WEBSITE
February 13, 2009

Many of All-Con's headline events are presented by content partners. The (Anime) Maid Competition is put on by Escape From Reality Clothing. Ladies of All-Con

All-Con's Volunteer Coordinator has been busy recruiting convention artists to submit entries for 2010. (I got an exclusive peek at the art proposals last weekend and WOW!) She has asked for me to post images of the first five Ladies of All-Con to inspire artists who may not be familiar with the convention to create and send in their proposals. You can click on the image above and the All-Con Con-Girl past-years portfolio will open. 2010 ConGirl entries will be exhibited in the All-Con art gallery during the convention in March.

Candace Kita Joins All-Con Line-Up
February 4, 2009

If you missed Candace in her three seasons of "Masked Rider" then you'll probably recognize her from her recent appearances on "According to Jim", "Ugly Betty", or "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry". Going back to 2005 film buffs will instantly recognize her as 'China' from "The Bad News Bears". Along with her film stills, Candace will also have several of her modeling shots available to autograph. Watch the schedule for Candace to speak on her experiences on the network television and silver screen scenes. (Extra credit to anybody who costumes as the Masked Rider!)

Peter Mayhew (Chewbacca) Roars Into All-Con
February 4, 2009

Anybody who has ever met Peter Mayhew will tell you that he's both soft spoken and approachable. Perhaps one of *the* most personable of all the Star Wars actors we've ever met, Peter is all heart in putting fans first. In fact, Peter will be holding a FREE event, 'Ask Chewbacca' which is open not only to All-Con attendees, but free to the General Public as well! (See link at left or go to www.AskChewbacca.info). Peter is an amazing addition to the All-Con guest line-up and we look forward to three full days of encountering him through the convention activities.

Screw Attack In The Vendor Room!
February 4, 2009

It's all about getting your game on! Screw Attack will be setting up shop in the All-Con Vendor room for you to learn all about the latest release video games and check out some of the titles they're bringing along for the weekend.

Low Stock Warning
February 4, 2009

Con-Critter Collectors! This year in addition to the standard con-critters we produced three limited edition animals. The brown bear, duck, and lion are only available online this year and have blue-sleeved shirts. We are down to FEWER than 10 of each of these favorites. (Duck is down to 5 as of today!) (Bear collectors: Brown Bear isn't far behind!) The online exclusives will NOT have any additional animals ordered by the convention. Once they sell out, they're really, really gone. Order yours before somebody else does and you miss out. CLICK HERE to go to the order page.

John and Bonita - Update
February 3, 2009

Sadly, for the first time in our 5-event history we've had our first guest cancellation. John Billingsley and his wife Bonita Friedericy will be unable to attend All-Con this March. John has successfully landed a theater role which will prevent them from attending. John enjoyed his last trip to Dallas and hopes to be invited to All-Con again for a future convention.

Texas Hold'Em - Free To Play - Free To Win!
February 2, 2009

Texas Gamers have just announced their Texas Hold'Em tournament for Saturday night. There is NO BUY-IN (it's free to enter) and everybody in the tournament is eligable to win prize packages! This is your big chance to practice your poker skills with zero chance to lose your shirt and an opportunity to walk away with some really cool prizes!

Aaron Douglas Update
February 2, 2009

From: Brian Earles, Star Garrison XO
"It is my pleasure to announce that due to several generous donations, WE HAVE raised the money needed to bring Aaron Douglas back to All Con! The flight was purchased today. Aaron is flattered that we have done this. He has agreed to do at least one panel, will be signing autographs, and will be interacting with the members and guests at the revamped Imperial Gladiators (formerly Stormtrooper Olympics). More to come in the days ahead!"

What Happened To The Olympics?
February 1, 2009

The "Stormtrooper Olympics" from 2008 had a brief name change to the "Imperial Training Camp" and now has settled in its new Forever Name: "Imperial Gladiators"! This year fans can cheer on their favorite Star Wars costumed Imperial soldier during "Gear Up", "Saber Gauntlet", "Capture the Princess", and "Arena Combat".

SCA Presents Medieval Content
January 31, 2009

Please stop in, enter the past and enjoy the present. Be it 600 or 1600 you will be enthralled with the fighting demonstrations and awed with the artistic displays. History will entice you to greater dreams of chivalry and passion. Meet Lords and Ladies as they show you how the past should have been. Step into a world where men can be knights and women can be queens.

These kind people know how it was done, and can take you there. The SCA is an international organization dedicated to researching and re-creating the arts and skills of pre-17th-century Europe. The "Known World" consists of 19 kingdoms, with over 30,000 members residing in countries around the world. Members, dress in clothing of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, attend events which may feature tournaments, arts exhibits, classes, workshops, dancing, feasts, and more. The "royalty" hold courts at which they recognize and honor members for their contributions to the group.

Club Tables, Artist Alley: SOLD OUT
January 30, 2009

It has been a fun (and wild!) ride configuring All-Con this year! We've got some really enjoyable friends returning to All-Con in Match, along with a fresh new group of artists and clubs joining us for the first time. For anybody else who wished they could have gotten in on the convention but cannot now since we're FULL, we've started a sign-up sheet for 2010. The Art Show is the last place we're selling space for and even it is starting to show signs that it may sell out this year. Artists, if you didn't get a table then a display panel in the Art Show is still a great way to get your work seen at the convention and maybe even earn your table money for next year!

Get Your HERO On!
January 29, 2009

First you have All-Con's Super Hero Sunday. Next add in Ken Lally, "The German" from televisions HEROES. Now top it all off with Joe Singleton, the creator of HeroBlog.com and Ad Astra! How could it get much better? Joe will be at All-Con all three days, penning away at his heroes for you to enjoy! Stop by and see what you can learn from Joe. In the past he's done panels on development (characters, environment) and web comics.

Not "Bizarre" - Pipoca Bizarre!
January 28, 2009

Pipoca Bizarre is Halo's business that includes art, charms, key chains, jewelry, knick nacks and all other sorts of fun, odd or cute stuff. Pipoca Bizarre also has accessories (mostly foods) for (Dollfie) ball-jointed dolls! Prices for commissions may vary.

Sweet Treats, Sweet Girls, Sweet Cause!
January 28, 2009

The 501st Star Garrison resident Sith Cheerleader Squad wants to offer you a unique opportunity to help one of their favorite charities : The American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. Saturday evening of All-Con, the squad will be offering for sale a number of handmade sweet treats including cupcakes, brownies and the perennial Star Wars fan favorite, Wookiee Cookies. All monies collected will be donated to the Relay for Life in Baytown at their event in April. So be on the lookout for those black and red uniforms Saturday so you don't miss this opportunity to get to know a couple of your local Sith Cheerleaders _and_ do a good deed at the same time. The squad will also be assembling for their annual squad photo so its a perfect chance to get that picture you've always wanted surrounded by Pompoms and the Cheer Pride of the Dark Side!

DEALER'S ROOM: SOLD OUT
January 28, 2009

The countdown on the blog is at 44 days as we write this quick update. Dealers! If you haven't been in touch with us yet about a table ... too late. The last one was booked today to Knights of the Realm Collectibles. We thank you very much for your consideration and invite you to hop onto our stand-by list. Artists and clubs? TWO TABLES LEFT and the gallery will be sold out as well. Artists for the Art Show? We've still got a couple of panels and plenty of table space! Our Art show was beefed up 2 years ago with all new panels so it's unlikely that you're going to overwhelm us this year for space. (Although you're certainly welcome to try.) (smile) Thank you for your attention today, and we look forward to seeing everybody in a month!

Knights of the Realm Collectibles
January 27, 2009

Hotel Options: Sunday Check-Out
January 24, 2009

What to do about Check-Out on Sunday? If you're spending the weekend at All-Con, it can be a challenge to decide what to do about check-out on Sunday at noon. The convention is in full swing, there's a lot left to do, but check-out just gnaws at people. Here are some options.
  • Postpone the inevitable. When you check in, ask for "Late Check Out". That buys you an extra hour. Late check-out is 1pm and it's free.
  • Buy more time. Late late check-out is 3pm, but that's an extra $50.
  • Check out early (and stay)! Get up early, eat a good breakfast, pack, and check out. If you have a vehicle, put your luggage in the trunk. If you don't have a vehicle or your luggage/costumes don't fit in the truck, HAVE THE HOTEL HOLD THEM FOR FREE until you leave.
Checking out doesn't mean you have to leave the hotel. The hotel just needs the guest rooms back to clean for the next person. If you have the front desk hold your luggage, you're free to stay at the convention Sunday unencumbered all the way through the close. Checked out but still need someplace more private to change costumes? The conventions Hospitality Suite has a 'private' restroom (vs. the Men's and Women's in the hotel commons) which has often doubled as a dressing room.

NEW SUNDAY EVENT: Pattern and Fabric Swap
    January 23, 2009

The DFW Costuming Guild is holding an hour long Pattern and Fabric swap on Sunday March 15th. "It will be as simple as the title. People can bring their unwanted fabric and patterns and hopefully someone else will decide they want it. No money will change hands on this it is a free swap. Anything left over will be donated to Good Will." All All-Con attendees are invited to attend. Bring out all that fabric and those patterns you've had stashed away that you've never gotten to and trade them in for something new to create from!

    DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS Tabletop Gaming
    January 23, 2009

Adventure awaits you at All-Con! The Gaming Community has asked to pull up a chair at the convention and we have provided tables! The game of choice for 2009 is Dungeons and Dragons. The gaming club will have a DM and characters running, and will be happy to write you in at any point during the weekend! If you're not a D&D player (yet), this is also an open play demo to demonstrate how to play so spend some time checking it out.

    Rowan's Originals
    January 22, 2009

A whole different type of toys! Come by and rediscover what fun it can be to play again! Costumes, leather work, jewelry, and oddities!

Kit Lively - A Little Sketchy But Returning

Courteous Kind and Forgiving? Kit Lively, one of the few people who have Mad Magazine, National Lampoon, and Hustler Publications all on his portfolio of magazines who have published his work. La Divina Encores 2008 All-Con Debut
    January 16, 2009

March of 2008 was the first time All-Con attendees were introduced to La Divina. She had such a great time with her fans (and making new ones!) that she asked to be booked again for 2009. Who brought her back? YOU DID. La Divina's burlesque performance on Saturday March 14th is sponsored by the Dallas/Fort Worth Fan Force. For more information on La Divina, please visit her website, www.ladydivina.com.

    Tired Of (Bad) World News?
    January 15, 2009

The hotel is confirmed, as are the guests. Every couple of days new dealers are announced. The clubs are all excited to be coming back or for attending the first time. Registrations continue to arrive daily. We even got some new promo pictures with the 2009 con critters! Compare our 3-day ticket price and hotel rates to other local conventions and you'll find that we're (one of?) the lowest cost and and highest attended in Dallas / Fort Worth.

Step away from the television, turn off the radio, and leave all the bad news behind for a 3-day weekend of fun making new friends. Take some relaxing time to read through our headline events, features, and panels. Once a year All-Con is your get-away. Your escape. Buy your badge today and we'll see you in March. (Burlesque priority seating now available with 3-day badge.)

    Volunteer Positions Available
    January 14, 2009

Be a part of the team that gets to see the convention up close and personal. Be a volunteer. Besides the opportunity to earn a free badge for next year, volunteers are rewarded with a special appreciation event where they have special access to the celebrities and opportunities for gifts and prizes. You're coming to the convention anyway, why not volunteer and get to see the whole thing? Sign up today.

    Postcards Going Out This Weekend!
    January 14, 2009

The best way to remember the convention and receive updated throughout the year is to subscribe to the news list (email: powered by Yahoo Groups) or get on our postcard mailing list. The next postcard - pictured at right - will be mailed out this weekend. If you aren't already on the mailing list, send your name and address to info@all-con.org and we'll make sure you're added, starting with the current postcard.

    ALL-CON 2010 ANNOUNCED
    January 13, 2009

We're taking a moment from our 2009 promotions to announce that All-Con VI will be March 12-14 of 2010. That's significant because to begin the 2010 preparations we need our next Super ConGirl! In 2005 and 2007 she was penned by Christ Albright, 2006 was Adam Hughes interpretation. Scott Trotter was the con artist in 2008. The reigning 2009 design is Kat from Johnathon Caustrita's Tiki Coladas web comic. If you've got a proposal for the All-Con 2010 Super ConGirl please send it to Register@All-Con.org for consideration. Please also remember that as the 2010 convention artist you will be called upon for badge art, t-shirt art, and Super ConGirl in different poses for advertising and promotion. Submit as many ideas as you've got. Good luck!

Aaron Douglas Attending in 2009 For Friends?
    January 12, 2009

"I had an amazing time last year at All-con. They were so professional and treated me so very well. And the fans were tremendous. I will not be returning as a guest of the con this year BUT.... the members of the 501st are very eager to have me back to have a pint with them and goof off a bit. So right now, my pal Brian is working very hard on organizing a room and flight for me so I can get down there. It will depend on my schedule which can change hour to hour but right now it is looking good for me to be seen in Dallas in March." Posted by Aaron Douglas on LiveJournal.

    60 Days Until All-Con!
    January 12, 2009

With a mere 60 days remaining until the Opening Ceremonies for All-Con 2009, we've posted an updated schedule. Yes, we've noticed that there are still quite a few panel openings. The current schedule does not include panel information from the Anime community, Scarborough Faire, the panelists who have turned in forms but not confirmed yet, and two guests who have not yet been confirmed. If you would like to be a panelist for 2009, get on the standby list! Fill out the Panelist Application and we will be in touch with you within 24 hours to screen your content to see if we can find a slot for you in March. If we're unable to accommodate, you'll be at the top of the list for 2010. The next update will be in 30 days that that one will be pretty much the final. Panelists: Don't delay or you'll lose your slot!

The 2009 collection features a tiger cub, panda bear, alligator, kitten, moose, and cow. Start a new trend in 2009 -- Find Johnathon at the convention and have him sign your critter's shirt! These little friends are a constant reminder that there's always something great to look forward to at All-Con!

Start The Trend And Make New Friends!
    January 4, 2009

They're called "Hall Games". Every convention has them. Like a great social network, all it takes is the initiation of a popular game with "easy joins" and people will wander into your game. Some of the more popular hall games are The Great Dalmuti and Werewolf. Attacktix open-play can be accomplished on nearly any table, floor, or flat surface. Games with fairly quick rounds are inviting for new players to join in. If you want to help build a convention community and meet like-minded fans, hall games are an excellent way to begin.

Talking Pinata - Not Sure Why
    January 4, 2009

We're going to blame this one on tradition. Sqwatty McManly the talking leprechaun pinata was an original ConDesign for All-Con. Four years ago when we found the poor little guy being peddled on the internet we were determined to give him a bit of dignity. We were wrong. The little guy is still hiding his gold colored chocolate coins, so if you've got a 'thing' for busting piņatas while they talk back you then you're in luck. Sqwatty is back!

    MAID COMPETITION

    URIZEN Rocks All-Con in March!
    November 16, 2008

URIZEN (pronounced "YER-is-in") plays original sci-fi/fantasy rock music, which, right away, makes them a perfect fit for All-Con. All-Con WINNERS
    November 13, 2008

Have you ever seen the 501st Star Wars Imperial costumed characters patrolling the convention and getting their photos taken? It's not just fun and games for some of them. One of their private events is a competition called "Last Trooper Standing". Basically it's a challenge to see who can live in their armor the longest, and it's measured in days - not just hours. That right, sleeping in armor, eating, using the bathroom, everything. A true test of endurance and deodorant. In 2008 it came down to two competitors and they decided to call it a draw. All-Con recognizes and congratulates Tracy Wilson and Faron Morales for their dedication to duty at the convention. When you see an Imperial at the convention, remember that they're there to have some fun too... unless it's Droid Hunt day and you've got a droid. Then it would be a good time to find dark place to hide in until the trooper passes by.

Watch for Scarlett's Corset at All-Con in March.

Visit their many wares at All-Con in the Trinity Ballroom this March!

Attacktix On The Schedule for 2009!

First Two Celebs On-Board for 2009
    August 25, 2008

We receive celebrity requests from time to time and we do what we can to accommodate the public since ultimately it is 'you' who makes the convention worthwhile. Last spring we received an unusually heavy load of emails all *demanding* that we invite the incomparable John Billingsley. Today we are thrilled to announce that John is coming to All-Con in March!

Accompanying John is the beautiful and talented Bonita Friedericy, best know for role as General Beckman on Chuck, even though her acting credits span 10 years of television and film!

If you have never been in the presence of the energy of these two masterminds, you're in for a treat at All-Con.

UPDATE 2/1/09: We are very sad to announce that John and Bonita have a professional engagement which will prevent them from attending All-Con in 2009. John has been fun and encouraging though his emails to the convention and even offered to help locate guests. All-Con will miss him this March and look forward to the possibility of trying to have John and Bonita as guests at a future All-Con convention.

On a separate note: Our point of contact at Assassination City, Trigger Mortis, is down!! She leg is broken in eleven places and she will not be skating, possibly for the rest of the season.
